Cabeling from solar panels Carthago c-tourer 143 2012

PeFo54 am 31 Jan 2018 16:50:40

Hi
Hope its ok with english.
I plan to install solar panels on my Carthago c-tourer 143. Installation and selection of panels is the small problem. But where do I take down the power cables from the roof to the battery pack?
The auto is so well build so there is no screws anywhere. I found a place in the toalett and one on the right side of the door to the living area that can be used for vertical cabeling. There is also a plastic small box on the roof (electric box) that seems to be installed later. Can this be a termination point for the cables for the sunpanels? Please advice. You dont like to start drilling in the roof and find out this place is a blind end.

Hej, Congratulations. Good idea! :) You are from Sweden? Because you wrote "toalett"..

Whats on the inside beneath this box?
Maybe you can add a picture of this box here? (Then go to "Antwort erstellen". -> Down to "Dateianhang hochladen" -> "Durchsuchen". Then pick a picture from your PC and give it a name below. Then click "Bild hochladen". Then you will see a link. Copy it and add it to your text.)

Sure! I measured out as exactly as possible from inside and out, to find the best place, to go through the roof with the solar-cable..

You' re welcome.. :)

Yes I am from Gothenburg ,Sweden
The auto is right now covered against the snow, but I plan to climb up on the roof to open the box and look into it soon. We bought the auto late October, so we have just used it two times. There where a lot other to do the first time, and then came the bad weather. Its a problem with Carthago in Sweden as its in a expensive class, and few have one, so its difficult to use Swedish forums to get help. Its better using German forums (except, my skills in German is bad). I try to look soon and be back. I guess the plastic box is no standard for the Carthago? The auto is bought from beginning in Stralsund as Carthago motorhomes are about 30 % cheaper in Germany then Sweden.

Hi!
Do you have an integrated one or a T-Modell?
Where do you have the fridge and what Modell do you have?
The small plastic box on the roof, could it be that it is above the fridge?
Cheers

Hi,
take some pictures, this could be the best way to solve the Problem.

Its a integrated model. The fridge is under one of the beds. I was just on the roof. When open the box there is a lot of cables . One is a coax, probably for Sat tv then two with connectors, and one red and one black probably for solar. Do you have any clue where those cables are terminated? This auto has a separate sat receiver just under this place and a automatic sat antenna. Can this box been extra installed by Cathago? Its looks not very proffesional

Hej,

I have no specific answer for your problem. The mounting really doesn't look very professional. You bought the car from private? Maybe you can contact the former owner to find out where the cables go to.

Just for my curiosity: Whats this silver-grey box left side?

Hej da!

Hello,

in my oppinion these two thick cables (red and black) in this box on the roof are solar cables.
You should have a look to your "living room battery", these two cable should arrive there. Maybe it's also possible to follow the cables from the roof to the battery.. it depends how they are installed. If the cables arrive to the battery you can measure that these cables are not cut between roof and battery. If they are ok, you can use them to install your solar paneels.

But.. first you should change this box on the roof. Take something like this Link zum eBay Artikel.

The other cables in the box are shurely for an automatic SAT-antenna. If you don't need them, pull them inside and cut them. If you want to use them, use a second part from the link.

To connect the paneels to the cables you can use these connectors:

yes, the red and black wiring should be for your solar system.

Check your wiring at the battery, there must be an connection.
If you want to follow the wiring, mind your back!

When the electric wires for the solar are connected with the battery, but there is no electricity at the roof, then please check the wiring. Other owners from an Chic C Line had the same problem and found the wire disconnected from Carthago before selling the car. They found out that beneath the black cup holder on the side of the co-driver there is a hole. When you look in there you should see the wire an then you can find out if its cut or not.

Good luck!

ok, it looks like a major problem:

1. somebody had too much sealant
2. the junction box is not UV radiation proof. That is a standard box from the ordinary home depot.
Not for use on a rooftop.
I suggest to swap the junction box.

Ask a communications technician for a tracer.
E.g. the Tempo cable tracer. You connect a transmitter to the wire, with the receiver you can track the wiring.
